So most of us use experts to help us when we want to get the job done right. Maybe it’s a Lawyer in a court case or an Accountant to help with the IRS and even more popular is the Personal trainer that helps get our body’s in shape. So why is it so difficult for people to hire a professional design consultant at a reputable furniture store. My take is that customers think the designers will be over bearing and pushy, well I must admit they’re are some of those out there but there are bad apples in every profession.
So here is what to look for, start with someone that understands your style make sure they are listening to what you are saying. Give them examples of rooms you have seen in magazines, if you are hiring an independent designer take them to stores that you like. Be sure the consultant understands your lifestyle, what the room will be used for and who will be using it, children, pets, grand kids, frequent entertaining, this understanding is important when selecting furnishings. Most often you will have existing furniture and art that needs to be incorporated into your space, be sure the designers have a good understanding of the pieces that are important to keep in that space and what could be moved to another room. Make sure your designer has a good idea of what you want to spend up front, this way there will not be any big surprises for you or the designer when they are making their presentation.
Most of all make sure that it is a fun experience, if it starts to feel overwhelming take a step back. A good designer should have the project broken up into smaller projects, that will all come together giving you a room that you will enjoy for years.
Concepts has designers on it’s staff to assist you or if you prefer to hire your own and bring them in we will work with them on your project.
